Conceived by producer/editor Michael Frenchman, the play was adapted and written by writer/director/actor Alyssa Harden directly from the 175-page text of Mary Shelley's original novel "Frankenstein, the new Prometheus", first published in 1818. Our version focuses on the science and the psychology of Frankenstein and his Creature. The play is part of VgrafLive's "Artificial Intelligence & Us" media series. With the exception of Ms. Harden, the entire cast was drawn from the veterans of our production of R.U.R..
Shelley wrote of her initial conceptualization of the story:
"I saw the pale student of unhallowed arts kneeling beside the thing he had put together. I saw the hideous phantasm of a man stretched out, and then, on the working of some powerful engine, show signs of life, and stir with an uneasy, half vital motion. Frightful must it be; for supremely frightful would be the effect of any human endeavour to mock the stupendous mechanism of the Creator of the world."
Harden will direct the theatrical production while Frenchman will produce overall and direct the video recording for later development and distribution.
